MMMM! Monday 10 Nov, Movie (Power Station), Meal & Mingling
Hi all,
MMMM! Monday Movie, Meal & Mingling is back on Monday 10 Nov!
https://ud.coop/power
This week we’re screening the wonderful new film Power Station. Like the filmmakers’ previous film Bank Job, it’s an inspirational, informative and funny exploration of how much communities can achieve together when they discover their agency.
We're expecting this to be another busy one (and so we may need to move up into the Yellow Room again!) as lots of people have been asking us to screen it and it's our most requested film on our MMMM! Next film? site where you can suggest and upvote films you think we should screen.
Transition Network co-founder Rob Hopkins has even gone as far as saying it's "one of the most important films ever made"!
A reminder that you can also Join West Dorset Commons to get into MMMM! for free and to support our ongoing work to make West Dorset a home to thriving people, in a thriving place, whilst respecting the wellbeing of all people, and the health of the whole planet. Our current projects include: MMMM!, a Bridport Seed Library, the WB1 West Bay Shuttle, the forthcoming LB1 Lyme Bay Night Link between Bridport and Lyme, and the Bridport Food Co-op wholefood wholesale food buying group. We also hope to organise more Best of Bridport events in the future, and much else besides too (see e.g. here, here and here for lots more info about our goals and ambitions).
But back to MMMM! on Monday 10 November:
We'll have a delicious (mostly organic) vegan curry from 6ish:

And the main feature from 7pm:
Power Station (1 hour 36 mins) 2016
In the depths of the pandemic, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn decide that instead of power bills going through the roof, power should come off the roof. They launch a grassroots plan to turn every building in their street into a power station through the installation of solar panels. Their turbulent journey will include meetings in hard hats, the invention of a new currency, putting the bed on the roof, smoke bombs, a hit pop single, and even a royal visit. It's an enchanting utopian recipe; take a community, mix in some vision and energy, add just a dash of British eccentricity, and the result is everyday magic. In the end a thousand flowers will bloom. By turns funny and heartwarming, Powell and Edelstyn's film is a vibrant portrait of their local neighbourhood and a charming testament to the power of art in changing minds about what could be possible. This is how change happens. Power to the people.
“I will say, without any sense of exaggeration or hyperbole, that this is one of the most important films ever made. Everyone needs to see it.” – Rob Hopkins, co-founder, Transition Network
We'll also have:
Delicious (mostly) organic vegan curries from Fergus Bradbeer aka Vegie Vortex (who also used to do the curries at Beach and Barnicott), plus hot and cold drinks.
Please note:
Our room hire costs £42/ week so if you're able to able to contribute more than the default ticket amount then please do so.
We also need to ensure enough people come along to make it worthwhile for Fergus to keep coming along to cook up the delicious food - so invite a friend!
Many thanks in advance. Together We Have Everything.
