Dear Future Children (1 hour 29 mins) 2021

With global protests on the rise, DEAR FUTURE CHILDREN is a film about the new generation at the heart of this seismic political shift. We will watch as Rayen protests for social justice in Chile, Pepper fights for democracy in Hong Kong and Hilda battles the devastating consequences of climate change in Uganda. Facing almost impossible odds and grappling with the staggering impact of their activism on their personal lives, we will be asking these three young women why they keep fighting.

A film about the next generation, made by the next generation.

"(...) the most powerful film in the entire section. (...) Director Franz Böhm brilliantly maintains a balance between all three stories, which allows him to develop a complex picture of several of today’s socio-environmental issues within the scope of a single film." - Review by Jan Kinzl, Modern Times Review
"The spark in these young revolutionaries is undeniably invigorating." - Review by Pat Mullen, POV Magazine
Close-up of a young activist wearing a black face mask and wide-brimmed hat, looking to the side with determination. The background shows a densely packed residential building, suggesting an urban protest setting. Scene from the documentary Dear Future Children.

PEPPER
HONG KONG

"The things I'm doing now, protesting in a movement and striking for democracy is way more important than saving money, or having a boyfriend, or having a family ... A relationship is nothing compared to a protest, a movement, or a democracy. I don't think I can return to my old life anymore; you took up these responsibilities and you can't really go back." - Pepper
Close-up of a young woman with a serious, contemplative expression, wearing a burgundy top. She is seated indoors with soft natural light and green foliage in the background. Scene from the documentary Dear Future Children.

HILDA
UGANDA

"I am the voice of the dying children, displaced women, and people suffering at the hands of the climate crisis created by rich countries." - Hilda
Close-up of a young woman with long orange hair and a lip piercing, wearing a respirator mask around her neck. She looks ahead with resolve, with a statue and urban buildings blurred in the background. Scene from the documentary Dear Future Children.

RAYEN
CHILE

"In front of the Chilean presidential palace, there is this huge Chilean flag. It is standing there, right in front of the presidential palace and I think that is wrong. It implicates to visitors that our government is loving its country. Given what's happened in the past months, I refuse to believe that. I believe that the only thing that they really love is themselves." - Rayen
IMDb rating of 7.4 out of 10, based on 3.9K user ratings, with a yellow star icon beside the score.

We'll also have:

Delicious (mostly) organic vegan curries from Fergus Bradbeer aka Vegie Vortex (who also used to do the curries at Beach and Barnicott), plus hot and cold drinks.
