MMMM! Monday 14 September, Movie (Canary), Meal & Mingling
Hi all,
MMMM! Monday Movie, Meal & Mingling is back on Monday 14 September!
https://ud.coop/canary
Bridport's lovely fortnightly film and food event in the lovely White Room at the Chapel in the Garden (entry via Rax Lane)
This week we're screening: Canary (1h 44m) 2023.
Canary is an inspirational documentary about the scientist Lonnie Thompson's decades-long, against-the-odds mission to drill and preserve glacier ice cores documenting Earth's climate history before they melt away for good — a story of tenacity, sacrifice and turning first-hand fieldwork into hope for climate action.
A reminder to check out our MMMM! Next film? site where you can suggest and upvote films you think we should screen. It's easy to login, you just enter your email and then click the link it sends you.

And the main feature from 7pm:
Canary (1h 44m) 2023
Witness the extraordinary life of Dr. Lonnie Thompson, an explorer who went where no scientist had gone before and transformed our idea of what is possible.
Daring to seek Earth's history contained in glaciers atop the tallest mountains in the world, Lonnie found himself on the frontlines of climate change--his life's work evolving into a salvage mission to recover these priceless historical records before they disappear forever.
Lonnie G. Thompson, a Distinguished University Professor at The Ohio State University, and senior research scientist, specializes in paleoclimatology, ice cores, and climate change. He's a pioneer in tropical ice core paleoclimatology, using solar-powered drilling equipment in regions like the South American Andes, the Himalayas, and Kilimanjaro. Thompson's research highlights the Earth's climate system's interconnections, particularly focusing on El Niño and monsoon systems. His glacier observations reveal the alarming impact of global warming, exceeding natural climate variability for millennia.
