This week is the start of Co-operative Fortnight and so we're screening two films all about co-ops:

Two very short shorts about co-ops around 6:45pm ish:

Followed by the Co-operative Fortnight Double Bill:

Another Utopia (49 mins) 2015

Another Utopia charts the journey of a visionary group of individuals, who sought to develop new ways of building communities through co-operative housing.

The film revisits the organic and sometimes turbulent emergence of this alternative commune and its subsequent development into a funded co-operative housing entity.

Tracing roots from the peace movement, Notting Hill housing activism groups, feminism and gay liberation, the narrative captures a fertile period in recent history.

In the context of a deepening housing crisis and community fragmentation, Another Utopia examines an alternative model of housing and living, a reminder that even in today’s individualistic society we have the power to effect change when working together.

Members of Abeona Housing Co-operative and volunteers from the local community worked with artist Albert Potrony on a year-long project researching the squatting and housing co-operative movement of the 70’s and 80’s in Camden, London.

Punk Football (35 mins) 2013

Punk Football tells the powerful and passionate story of a group of Manchester United supporters who, disillusioned by the club’s corporate takeover, decided to take matters into their own hands. In a bold act of resistance, they founded their own football club: FC United of Manchester.

This grassroots documentary charts their journey from frustration to fierce determination, highlighting how ordinary fans built something extraordinary - guided by democratic principles, community spirit, and a love for the beautiful game untainted by commercial greed. Punk Football is an inspiring look at fan power, collective action, and the enduring soul of football.

We'll also have:

Delicious (mostly) organic vegan curries from Fergus Bradbeer aka Vegie Vortex (who also used to do the curries at Beach and Barnicott), plus hot and cold drinks.

Please note:

Our room hire costs £42/ week so if you're able to able to contribute more than the default ticket amount then please do so.

We also need to ensure enough people come along to make it worthwhile for Fergus to keep coming along to cook up the delicious food - so invite a friend!

Many thanks in advance. Together We Have Everything.
